Benita Nzeribe, has been crowned Air Safety Ambassador for Nigeria. Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) in Lagos managing director, Mr. Nnamdi Udoh, said the choice of Nzeribe was informed by her interest and enthusiasm in the aviation sector, as well as her patriotic zeal to promote air safety. He enjoined her to use her position as an actress to propagate the message that the country’s airspace “is safe and that air travel is safer than other modes of transportation, considering its speed and comfort.”
“NAMA is striving to sustain an environment that
promotes air safety particularly in the area of surveillance for pilots
to fly with less talking from the controllers; where pilots can fly more
directly to their airports of destination,” he said.
He also charged the ambassador to use her
professional skill to disabuse the minds of Nigerians that there was no
surveillance in the Niger Delta, saying the agency’s radar captured
flights in that region. Ha added that NAMA would soon deploy Automatic
Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) to the region to capture low
flying aircraft like helicopters to enhance safety and revenue.
In her response, the actress expressed appreciation to NAMA and promised to do her best to justify the honour.
