Late, Under-payment Payment of Salaries to Soon Become Criminal Offence

The House of Representatives , Tuesday, passed the second reading of a bill which proposed stiff penalties for employers of labour in both the public and private sectors who fail to pay or delay the payment of workers’ salaries. The bill according to The Punch newspaper, also proposed that underpayment of workers’ wages; pension and emolument will attract sanctions. House Minority Leader, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, who sponsored the bill said that penalties will include the loss of up to 10 to 20 per cent of the delayed salary. Gbajabiamila further explained that after a salary of one week delay, the employer would begin to lose percentages of the salary, which would be added to the employee’s pay.
I pray it works!
